The Concord Orchestra October Concert – Golden Jubilee

October 12, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 8:00 pm, repeating until October 13, 2018

The Concord Orchestra presents the opening concerts of the season on Friday, October 12, and Saturday, October 13.  This is Richard Pittman’s Golden Jubilee season, celebrating 50 years as Music Director of the Concord Orchestra.

After 50 years, Pittman said he has no intention of putting down his baton anytime soon.  “As long as I’m still able and still improving, I’m interested in growing,” Pittman said.

Acclaimed pianist Randall Hodgkinson will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

Bernard Hoffer composed In Memoriam Lore for piano, viola, and orchestra in memory of Richard Pittman’s late wife Lore, who passed away in June.  The solo parts will be played by Randall Hodgkinson and Bruce Kinmonth, principal violist of the Concord Orchestra.

Mr. Hodgkinson has performed with orchestras in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Cleveland, and New York.  His recent performances include two piano and four hand collaborations with his wife, Leslie Amper and many chamber music recitals in the Boston area.

The program begins with the lively Maskarade Overture by Carl Nielsen.  Carl Nielsen is Denmark’s most prominent composer, and the opera Maskerade is very popular in his native country.

The concert concludes with Franz Schubert’s magnificent Symphony No. 9.  This was the last symphony he composed, and it is considered by many to be his finest work for orchestra.

Performances are at the Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden in Concord.  Tickets for adults are $25/$30 at the door, $23/$27 online.  Tickets for students under 21 are $10.   For tickets and information, call 978-369-4967 or visit www.concordorchestra.com.
