CONCORD – Have you ever wanted to write a novel? Well, now is the time, as November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)! The goal of NaNoWriMo is for budding novelists to write 50,000 words by November 30. To facilitate this process, the Concord Free Public Library will hold four in-person writing events (write-ins) during the month of November.

The Main Library and Fowler Branch invite you to stop by the libraries during the following dates/times for a quiet place to write and enjoy a snack:

Fowler Branch (1322 Main St, Concord, MA) – November 3 & November 10, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Main Library (129 Main St., Concord, MA) – November 17 & November 24, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

The library is partnering with NaNoWriMo Municipal Liaison Kyra Wilson Cook, who will provide in-person support at all four write-ins. Kyra Wilson Cook is a former middle-school history teacher who fully embraced her desire to write fiction after her children were born. She enjoys writing stories that explore the thin veil between this world and the unknown beyond. A NaNoWriMo participant since 2010, Kyra has been mentoring participants, particularly mothers, for the last 8 years. She has self-published two novellas that were started as NaNo projects: The Patron of the Meadowlark Inn and Hewitt & Sons. Kyra writes for local businesses and blogs about suburban motherhood.

In addition, the library will hold a NaNoWriMo event for teens in grades 8-12 at the Main Library (129 Main St.), led by Teen Librarian Olivia Durant. The event will take place on Thursday, November 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as there is no school that day. The library will provide workspace and snacks for teens, and even some inspirational writing prompts to get them started. Registration is required.
