In June we will celebrate the 17th annual RiverFest, a weekend long event celebrating the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild and Scenic Rivers.
This year is a special year, as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Act, the National legislation passed in 1968 that made protection of these Rivers possible.
Last year’s weekend featured more than 30 events in nine communities, free and open to all who wanted to experience the rivers. In the MetroWest area, from Framingham to Lowell, events were hosted on and along the rivers highlighting all the things that make these rivers so special. The offerings were diverse, suitable for younger and older people, those who are adventuresome and want to be on the water, as well as those who enjoy history, the arts, or a scenic stroll along the river banks. There were boat rides, bird watching walks, and canoe trips, as well as historical reenactments, art activities, and music. Kids enjoyed events allowing them to explore the river banks or got an up close look at some wildlife.
Thank you to all of the partners and volunteers who planned and ran the local events. We could not have done this without you!
